Update Your Resume with Jill Klees
Published: October 3, 2017 by Kate M. Spaulding
On Thursday, October 5 at 5:30 PM PDT, SJSU Career Center liaison extraordinaire, Jill Klees, will hold her monthly workshop via Collaborate. Her presentation – “Update Your Resume” – is timely for you if you are:
- preparing to graduate
- considering an internship
- a recent graduate
- looking to get a job.
So, in sum, it will be useful for everyone!
One of Jill’s great talents is making online Collaborate sessions feel welcoming, inclusive, and personal. She’s always happy to answer participant questions, and I always come away from one of her workshops feeling both energized and smarter.
In this week’s discussion, you will learn how to integrate your LIS experience into an awesome, well-developed, and targeted resume that best represents you as the information professional you are. Jill will discuss contemporary formatting, how to develop descriptive accomplishment statements, and how to tailor and target your experience to the LIS field, even if it comes from a non-LIS setting or you worry you “only” have academic experience. She’ll take us through several resume examples and rewrites – seeing is understanding, in this case – and you’ll be able to apply those lessons to your own resume.
Of course, the iSchool Career Development site has a bouquet of resume-writing resources. And they’re great. But attending an interactive, tailored workshop will take your skills to the next level.
I hope that you’ll be able to attend Jill’s workshop at 5:30 PM Pacific on Thursday, October 5. It’s a great opportunity to ask Jill questions; not only does she always welcome them, she provides smart, actionable answers. If you can’t make it, a recording will be available.
