Retro Revival: GOG Joins Europe’s Largest Game Preservation Effort
Saving Pixels and Play: GOG Levels Up Game Preservation

Gamers and preservationists, rejoice!
GOG (Good Old Games) has officially joined the European Federation of Video Game Archives, Museums, and Preservation (EFGAMP)—a powerhouse alliance of cultural institutions and memory champions.
The move strengthens GOG’s growing Preservation Program, which has already re-released over 100 DRM-free classic titles. Now, with access to expertise from institutions like Germany’s Computerspielemuseum and The Royal Library of Denmark, the goal is not just to keep games playable on modern systems—but to ensure they aren’t lost to history.
Game preservation might sound niche, but it touches on broader archival issues: file formats, copyright, cultural value, and digital decay. This partnership brings energy, legitimacy, and resources to the mission of preserving the digital artifacts of an entire generation.
