Safe Harbor agreement between US and EU rejected

Earlier this month, the European Court of Justice ruled that the transatlantic Safe Harbor agreement is invalid. The agreement had made it possible for American companies (tech and otherwise) to use a single standard for data storage and consumer privacy. Essentially, the European Commission ruled that Safe Harbor cannot preempt the standards set forth by national authorities. You can read more about this decision and its implications here.
