Dr. Debra Wallace from Harvard Business School will be the convocation speaker for the San José State University School of Information’s virtual convocation ceremony in May.

The executive director of Knowledge and Library Services at Harvard Business School will send off graduates of the San José State University School of Information’s master’s degree and certificate online programs on their paths to successful and rewarding careers during the virtual convocation ceremony in May.

Dr. Debra Wallace oversees a team of nearly 60 librarians, archivists, economists, statisticians, journalists, and information management professionals in the Baker Library. She and staff members assist students through the complex teaching, learning and research environment at HBS. They also further research conducted by global scholars.

“She has strongly integrated the library with faculty research, and under her leadership, Baker Library at Harvard has been a leader in working with metadata, linked data and the use of digital tools,” said iSchool Director Dr. Sandra Hirsh.

Described by Hirsh as an “innovative and inspiring leader in the information profession,” Wallace currently serves on the iSchool’s International Advisory Council and has taught students enrolled in the Master of Library and Information Science program as a part-time faculty member.

“Dr. Wallace is an inspirational role model for new graduates, and I am thrilled she accepted our invitation to be the convocation speaker,” Hirsh expressed.

The iSchool will hold its third annual virtual convocation ceremony on Saturday, May 20, 2017, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. PDT. The online event enables all students, who live across the United States and in other countries, and students’ families and friends to attend the ceremony. Graduates can also celebrate their achievements on the convocation website.

San José State University will hold an onsite commencement ceremony for graduates of the entire university on Saturday, May 27 at Spartan Stadium. During the evening prior, iSchool graduates and their guests who live nearby or will be in town are encouraged to attend a graduation reception scheduled for Friday, May 26, from 4 – 5:30 p.m. PDT at the SJSU Student Union, Room No. 1.
