Jeremy KempOrganizers for the Sloan-C International Symposium on Emerging Technologies for Online Learning chose Jeremy Kemp to chair the event in spring 2011 in the Bay Area.

The annual Symposium brings together experts, intermediate users and novices interested in the technological aspects of online learning in face-to-face and virtual components. Three conferences are joining for one combined event to be chaired by Kemp, including the Moodle community conference and the MERLOT conference on learning materials and pedagogy.

Kemp was a track chair for the 2008 conference in Phoenix, AZ and then initiated a track about learning in virtual worlds for the 2009 conference held at the San Francisco Hyatt Regency June 17-19, 2009. The California State University sponsored the SF event, along with CSU Eastbay and the California Virtual Campus.

“Working with the planning committees for 2010/11 and the leaders of these three organizations has been extremely rewarding,” said Kemp. “We have an opportunity to serve a broader audience even in this financial climate and share best practices from a wide range of disciplines. The venue for summer 2010 will most likely be downtown San Jose.”

MERLOT is a leading edge, user-centered, searchable collection of peer reviewed and selected higher education, online learning materials, cataloged by registered members and a set of faculty development support services.

Moodle is the most popular open source system for teaching and learning and is based in Perth, Australia.

Kemp is a San José State University School of Information lecturer and is iSchool assistant director for the Second Life Campus
