New Course Uses the ALA Conference as the ‘Text’
The iSchool will be offering a unique one-unit course at the upcoming ALA Annual Conference designed to help students engage with colleagues and professional development through conference participation.
The American Library Association’s annual conference is coming up in June, and the San José State University School of Information will be holding a unique one-unit course during the conference. The course is designed to help students engage with colleagues and professional development through conference participation.
INFO 298-14 Professional Socialization and Leadership will be offered in the Master of Library and Information Science summer 2017 class schedule. The course is open to students enrolled in the MLIS program, and it may also be available to non-matriculated students through the Open Classes program.
Taught by iSchool lecturer Patty Wong, students will examine current trends in the information profession using the ALA conference as the “text,” according to the course description. Students will attend daily seminars, participate in a number of special programs, and attend the conference trade show. They will also have the opportunity to meet with prominent ALA member leaders and get a bird’s eye view of association governance.
A preconference webcast will be scheduled during the week of June 5. Students must attend or review the archived session prior to traveling to the ALA conference.
Registration for summer session opens on April 10 and closes on May 25. Individuals interested in taking the course through the Open Classes program can put in their request beginning on April 24.
