Special Session Scholarships

New students in Special Session who are starting the MLIS, MARA or Informatics program in spring 2021 are encouraged to apply for the Special Session Scholarships. A total of 13 scholarships will be awarded with funds covering $1,422 of each scholarship recipient’s course fees during the first semester enrolled at the iSchool!

All new Special Session students admitted to the MLIS, MARA or Informatics program for spring 2021 and have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.2 are eligible to apply for a Special Session Scholarship. A copy of your transcript showing your GPA is required.

Students must take at least three units in spring 2021.

Application Process

Using Prezi or Powtoon or similar tools (such as emaze), creatively build a presentation that showcases your skills (e.g., technology, organization, research, and other skills) and illustrates your commitment to one of the following themes:

  • impacting global and/or diverse communities and organizations
  • showing leadership through initiatives related to libraries or records or information environments or external professional associations
  • designing user friendly web interfaces

Entries will be judged based on creative presentation in the form of descriptive text, data points, visual elements, and your overall ability to convey your thoughts on one of the topics described above. Once you have created your presentation, complete the online scholarship application form (form will be open from August 3, through November 1, 2020). The scholarship applications will not be reviewed until after the application deadline.

Application Deadline

Applications will be accepted beginning on August 3, 2020, and the deadline to apply for a Special Session Scholarship is November 1, 2020. Scholarships will only be awarded to new students enrolled in the MLIS, MARA or Informatics program for spring 2021.

The scholarship committee members will review all submissions, select recipients, and notify recipients in December 2020.
