Jonathan Hunt

Jonathan Hunt has been Lead Coordinator of Library Media Services at the San Diego County Office of Education for the past ten years. In that role, he has provided coaching, technical assistance, and professional learning to forty-two local school districts. Prior to that role, Jonathan was in a variety of positions that allowed him to serve as a classroom teacher for grades 4-8 and as a teacher librarian for grades K-12. He also served for three years as the Vice President of Professional Development of the California School Library Association.

Jonathan Hunt is widely recognized as a literary critic of children’s and young adult literature. He has been a regular contributor to both Horn Book and School Library and presented seminars for the Bureau of Education & Research. Jonathan has also served on numerous award committees, including the Newbery Medal, the Caldecott Medal, the Printz Award, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and the Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards.

Jonathan graduated from San Jose State in 2007 with an MLIS and the Ken Haycock Award for Exceptional Professional Promise. He later joined the adjunct faculty at the iSchool from 2010 to 2015. This fall, he will assume the role of Teacher Librarian Program Coordinator in addition to teaching classes again.
