MC Brickell
MLIS '24, ALA Emerging Leader '25
MC Brickell took the long way around to librarianship. They started in 2016 as a part-time shelver, became full-time in 2018, and got a MLIS from the University of Rhode Island in 2024. Their masters program focused on information equity, critical librarianship, and accessibility. Prior to completing their masters, MC created programming that focused on sharing Deaf history and culture and advocated for inclusive collections and policies within the library system. They are part of the 2025 class of ALA Emerging Leaders, working on a project about professional development opportunities for library leadership. They became deaf after bacterial meningitis at eight months old and their first language was British Sign Language (BSL.) After moving to Texas in 1999, they were mainstreamed into a hearing school and didn’t have the chance to learn American Sign Language. One of their 2025 goals is to gain a basic understanding/practice of ASL. MC has recently moved to Chicago, IL with their dog, Oreo, and is looking for public and academic library jobs.
