Marie Vans receives 1st place award from ISTE’s 2015 Edu Machinima Fest

Marie Vans, School of Information graduate student, received 1st place in the Adult Division of the Curriculum Content Category in the International Society for Technology in Education’s annual ISTE’2015 EduMachinima Fest http://connect.iste.org/blogs/tanya-martin/2015/07/06/edumachinima-fest-2015-winners-announced. Her entry, “Catherine de Medici – St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre,” was created in fulfillment of an assignment for the LIBR 287 – Virtual Worlds: The Birth of The Renaissance in Florence course taught during the spring semester, 2013. The YouTube video, located at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLqxnfr9k-0, tells the story of Queen of France, Catherine de Medici’s involvement in the St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre, including appearances by her son, the King, her daughter, and other miscellany characters, all of which contribute to an additional honorable mention for dialog in addition to the 1st place award. The video was shot entirely on SJSU’s School of Information Island within the virtual world, Second Life, and currently has over 5300 views.
