April is Records and Information Management Month
Published: April 5, 2017 by Anna Maloney
April is a month of many holidays. Today, April 5th, we celebrate National Caramel Day, National Deep Dish Pizza Day, National Go For Broke Day, National Raison and Spice Bar Day, National Read a Road Map Day, National Walking Day, and Childhelp National Day of Hope.
The month of April is also dedicated to autism awareness, financial literacy, jazz appreciation–and records and information management. Established in 2002 to promote records management standards and best practices and to emphasize the importance of organized information, RIM month is a great opportunity for archivists, records managers, and information professionals to share the benefits of the profession. North Dakota State University posted on their website this useful acronym about the benefits of records:
Reduce cost through records management, storage, archiving, and disposal
Enable effective performance
Comply with legal and regulatory requirements
Operate more efficiently with readily available information
Restrict use to protect against inappropriate and unauthorized access
Deliver services without interruption in the event of a disaster
Support consistent execution and delivery of services, products, and business processes
