iSchool Instructor Lori Lindberg Honored with National Award for Archival Achievement

Lori LindbergThe Society of American Archivists recently honored Lori Lindberg, an instructor at San José State University School of Information, with a 2020 Council Exemplary Service Award for her long-standing commitment to archival education and the betterment of archives professionals.

The prestigious award was presented to Lindberg at the ARCHIVES*RECORDS 2020: The Virtual Joint Annual Meeting of SAA and CoSA, which took place during the second week of August, 2020—more than 2,500 individuals participated, making it the best-attended annual meeting in SAA’s history.

Lindberg joined the iSchool faculty in 2002 as a lecturer. She is also the faculty advisor for the SAA Student Chapter, providing guidance to future archivists. Her professional work led to the creation of the first independent accredited Master of Archives and Records Administration degree program in the United States; in 2008 the MARA degree at San José State University accepted enrollment of its first cohort.

She currently teaches courses in both the Master of Library and Information Science and MARA programs and was instrumental in mapping 15 MLIS and MARA courses to create curriculum to satisfy the Academy of Certified Archivists and Institute of Certified Records Managers exams. She also designed 15 weeks of lessons for each course using the SAA Code of Ethics and SAA Core Values, contributing her wealth of teaching experience and subject expertise.

Lindberg is a member of the SAA Education Committee, the SAA DAS Subcommittee, the Society of California Archivists, the Academy of Certified Archivists, and ARMA International. She has also served on numerous award committees and as chair of the Archival Educators Roundtable. She received a BA in English Literature from San Francisco State University in 1996 and an MLIS from San José State University in 2000.
