ACA Pre-Approved Courses

Overview

ACA Graduate Course Pre-Approval Program

ACAEach year the Academy of Certified Archivists must verify the qualifications of dozens of student applicants who want to take its certification examination. In the interest of saving time, the ACA has created a Graduate Course Pre-approval Program to evaluate graduate-level archival courses. Using a rubric based on the domains identified in the ACA’s Role Delineation Statement for Professional Archivists, the committee determines which courses meet the criteria for approval.

We’re pleased to announce that 10 required MARA courses and five INFO electives have been pre-approved for students who want to apply to take the Academy of Certified Archivists Certification Examination. Those courses are listed on the ACA website and are designated as ACA pre-approved in their course descriptions.

More information on the requirements needed to sit for the exam can be found on page 10 of the ACA Handbook. An explanation of what qualifies as graduate study in archival administration can be found on page 7 of the handbook.
