Speaker Change for Thursday’s SAASC Event! Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Society of American Archivists Student Chapter’s event “SAASC Presents Get Your House in Order: Advocating for Your Archives” with Erin Lawrimore will be rescheduled for a future date. In Erin’s place, we are grateful to be hosting Dr. Jessica Bushey, our own SJSU professor and advisor, as our guest speaker for this event on Thursday, February 1st from 5:00-6:00 pm (PST)!

SAASC Presents “Ask an Archivist” with Dr. Jessica Bushey

We look forward to an insightful discussion on the topic of raising the profile of archives within larger museum organizations and their valuable insights on advocacy in archives, which is a crucial aspect of our INFO 284 course on Reference and Information Services for Archives. While there may not be a PowerPoint presentation, Dr. Bushey will provide real-world examples and case studies through websites to enrich our discussion. Your understanding is greatly appreciated, and we hope to see you there!

Dr. Jessica Bushey received their Ph.D. in library, archival and information studies at the University of British Columbia, Canada in 2016. Prior to joining the faculty at San Jose State University in 2022, they were Adjunct Faculty at the University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria. At SJSU, Dr. Bushey teaches Preservation Management and Reference and Information Services in Archives. Dr. Bushey held the position of Archivist at MONOVA: Archives of North Vancouver from 2018-2022.

Dr. Bushey is currently the Chair of the Working Group on Reference and Access with the InterPARES Trust Research Group on Artificial Intelligence and Archives (2021-2026).
