What can begin with a graduate course assignment?

For SJSU School of Information MLIS student Judith Lin, the answer is: a peer-reviewed journal article.

Lin recently published “Factors Influencing Faculty Adoption of GenAI: Emerging Opportunities for Information Professionals” in The Journal of Academic Librarianship.

The research began during Dr. Norman Mooradian’s AI, Data, and Ethics course in Spring 2026. Students were encouraged to select a course-related topic for their term projects, and Lin chose to investigate the rapidly changing role of generative artificial intelligence.

She subsequently developed that work into a scholarly article examining the factors that influence faculty adoption of GenAI and the opportunities those changes may create for librarians and other information professionals.

The research highlights an increasingly important role for information professionals as colleges and universities grapple with questions surrounding AI literacy, ethics, responsible adoption, and effective use of emerging technologies.

Lin’s accomplishment also demonstrates something central to graduate education at the iSchool: coursework can become a launching point for research and professional contributions that extend well beyond the classroom.
