In 2023, Carmona served as the membership coordinator for the UX (User Experience) student group, with a focus on increasing membership, particularly among BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) students interested in the field of UX. With the help of the SJSU REFORMA (The National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish Speaking) group, she created a webinar to highlight Latinx information professionals working specifically in UX librarianship. Carmona is passionate about BIPOC students pursuing higher education to achieve greater representation in all fields. She was awarded the American Library Association Spectrum Scholar award in 2023, igniting her passion for diversity in education.
