Information Services Librarian, Norris Medical Library
University of Southern California
Los Angeles, CA
What I am doing now.
I work as an Information Services Librarian at University of Southern California’s Norris Medical Library, a part of the USC Libraries. I specifically liaise with the Keck School of Medicine, which includes the MD program, master’s and PhD in Public Health, doctor of Nurse Anesthesiology, Narrative Medicine, among others. In this role, I engage in reference and instruction, consult on health sciences research projects, collaborate with student services staff, and serve on committees and working groups within and outside of the library. During my brief time at USC I have distinguished myself as a leader in Graphic Medicine and was awarded a Collection Equity Grant from the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM Region 5) https://www.nnlm.gov/funding/projects/253 which has led to other collaborations across campus.
What are the most valuable skills I use in my job?
SJSU iSchool really helped prepare me for this position. Ranging from courses on online searching, reference, instruction, and government documents to actually formulating the ePortfolio. One the biggest assets for me was the number of internships I participated in and my service on the first executive board of REFORMA San José State University (SJSU) School of Information (iSchool) Student & Alumni Group.
