The Kitchen Library: Developing a Circulating Collection of Kitchen Tools and Appliances

The Kitchen Library: Developing a Circulating Collection of Kitchen Tools and Appliances: This project builds upon the Central Library Kitchen concept, to propose a circulating collection of kitchen tools and appliances within Portland, Oregon’s Central Library. Inspired by “Libraries of Things,” such as tool libraries, this potential collection aims to fill temporary gaps in users’ home kitchen inventories, and to enable the further development of culinary literacy, away from the physical space of the Central Library Kitchen. This progressive collection arguably furthers the library’s mission to offer services flexibly, equitably, and accessibly.
Taylor Kaplan: “I’m pleased to have recently finished my final semester of the MLIS program. I am an aspiring academic librarian, with a particular interest in research and instruction services. My background includes independent music retail, and community radio. I live in Portland, Oregon with my fiancée and our spoiled cat, Marty, and in my free time I enjoy cooking, record collecting, pub trivia, and radio DJing.”
