Redesign of the Internet Sacred Text Archive

Redesign of the Internet Sacred Text Archive: The Internet Sacred Text Archive (ISTA) is a free online archive providing access to sacred texts and reference materials from a wide range of religious and cultural traditions. While rich in content, the site’s homepage and top-level navigation can overwhelm users with dense links, unclear hierarchy, and inconsistent labeling. This project presents an information architecture redesign focused on improving findability, navigation, and overall understanding of the archive. Based on a content inventory, environmental scan, and open card sort with five participants, we developed user personas, before-and-after user journeys, a revised sitemap, and wireframes. The proposed redesign organizes homepage content into clearer categories, simplifies labels, and creates more distinct pathways for browsing, searching, and learning about the archive. These recommendations aim to make ISTA easier to navigate while preserving access to its extensive resources.
