Description: The Records Management & Archives interns will engage in tasks related to digitization of both photo negatives and permanent paper records. They will aid in the absorption and understanding of new digitization standards given to us by NASA and the National Archives and participate in the development of new workflows to adhere to these standards. The intern will complete metadata updates for existing digital assets. The intern will also have an opportunity to learn existing protocols for responding to research requests and records storage requests, granting them a well-rounded understanding of how archives and records management work together at JPL. This is an on-Lab assignments; Students are required to be on Lab a minimum of 3 days/week for full-time internships. Variable work schedules are available.

 

Required Qualifications: ● Interest in a Records Management & Archives career track. ● Must be currently enrolled in a graduate program in Information Science, Archival Studies, Library Science, or related discipline. ● Must be able to work full-time (40 hours/week) for 10-12 weeks, starting in May or early June ● Minimum GPA 3.0. ● Be able to provide writing samples.

 

Desired Qualifications: ● Proficient with basic computer office software (word processing, spreadsheets), operating computers and scanners. ● Proficient with image and document scanning/editing software; OCR software; and handling TIF, JPG, GIF, PDF, and PDF-A file formats. ● Must be detail-oriented, and capable of working in an environment that includes focused and repetitive tasks. ● Ability to work within a high-intensity learning environment. ● Strong written and verbal communication skills. ● Ability to work in a team environment, as well as be self-motivated and self-directed. ● Library, Archives, Records Management or related background/experience.
