Media Monday: Desert Data and Digital Horizons: My Takeaways from ARMA Infocon 2025
Phoenix proved the heat isn’t just in the weather — it’s in the ideas.

At ARMA InfoCon 2025 last week, I was proud to represent my school, San Jose State University, as a student ambassador along with assisting at the SJSU booth, engaging with colleagues interested in pursuing professional education or partnering with SJSU for internships and postgraduate opportunities for students. I had a great time engaging with current friends and new ones! Thanks to ARMA for helping to make this possible and for the experience.
It’s the rare place where you can walk out of one session on retention schedules and into another on AI ethics or cyber compliance and realize they’re all connected. It’s also incredibly validating to meet others who get it. The people who understand why classification schemas and audit trails keep you up at night.
I was also asked to speak on a panel with other students about my archives and educational journey. This was a big reach for me, and I appreciate the encouragement of my fellow students and of ARMA Director Rae Lynn Haliday and Dr Darra Hofman, both SJSU MARA faculty, who were also on the panel.
ARMA InfoCon is the nerve center of the information governance world. It’s where theory meets the people actually doing the hard work, from archivists and records managers to privacy, compliance, and IT pros. The first thing that hits you is how wide the field really is: everything from metadata ethics to AI risk management, digital preservation, retention law, cybersecurity, and the politics of transparency.
Impressions? I think that you leave feeling seen, informed, and just a little dangerous in the best way because now you know how deep the rabbit hole really goes. Finally, I found out that records and archives managers know how to party!
