iSchool Hubs: How to Get Started

Overview

iSchool VR: How to Get Started

All iSchool students are welcome and encouraged to get involved with the iSchool’s VR initiatives. You may also want to create rooms for something like a graduation showcase, or with instructor permission, as an alternative format for a final project. Consider creating a room for a remote conference presentation, proof of concept demo for your current or future job, or to create an exhibit for The Banned and Controversial Gallery or another iSchool VR gallery. All of these are great opportunities to jump into the world of virtual reality. The skills you learn using one browser-based VR platform also transfer very well to working with other virtual platforms. Get connected with us to begin your journey!

First Steps

  1. Fill out this iSchool VR Information Form. This will add you to our contact list so we can keep you informed of upcoming training sessions or events.
  2. Refer to our Browser-Based Virtual Reality Guide to get started in Spatial and/or FrameVR. Make sure to favorite the rooms you create so you can easily find and share them with us and others.
  3. Connect with the iSchool Hubs Team to share ideas or get help. You can email us at ischool-vr@sjsu.edu, and we also recommend you join our iSchool Virtual Reality Discord channel.

What Happens After You Graduate?

We encourage students who are building rooms on any virtual platform to use their personal email address, not their SJSU email, so that you always retain control over the spaces you create. We’d love to have your exhibit rooms connected to any relevant iSchool created galleries, and your rooms will stay connected to ours as long as you want them to be. You will always retain control, and if you want us to remove a portal from our gallery that links to yours, just let us know!
