Published: January 18, 2024, by Loida Garcia-Febo, Health and Wellness Ambassador

New year, new resolutions. All librarians have goals. Some want to finish researching and submitting a paper, others want to design cool programs for library patrons. Usually, lists of goals for the new year include items such as performing well at work, researching, attending conferences, applying for grants, figuring out solutions, and having a sharp mind to deal with anything that comes our way.

How can we excel in meeting our goals? I believe it all comes down to our wellness status and the choices we have made to support our health. In this blog post, I look at what experts are declaring to be wellness trends for the year ahead.

Published: August 1, 2023 by Loida Garcia-Febo, Health and Wellness Ambassador

During recent years, I have noticed the increased use of the word “toxic” to describe individuals, including librarians.

Published: April 17, 2023 by Loida Garcia-Febo, Health and Wellness Ambassador

On April 12, the Library of Congress announced that it had inducted ‘Gasolina,’ the mega hit of the Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee in the National Recording Registry. In Spanish, gasolina means fuel for a vehicle. Without fuel, a car cannot run. The driver of the car cannot go where they need to. The pandemic changed our lives forever. At three years in, we live, love, study, and work differently. We will forever live in some sort of pandemic mode, following security measures, keeping masks in our pockets, and hand sanitizer, gloves, and Clorox towelettes in our bags.

Women in Librarianship

Published: March 20, 2023 by Loida Garcia-Febo, Health and Wellness Ambassador

March is Women’s History Month. Celebrating and recognizing others is a central part of wellness as it can increase feelings of well-being and help us to connect with others. I wanted to write a blog celebrating my sisters, my fellow librarians, students, women. Recently, we observed three years since the world went on lockdown.  Women, we railed together, we supported each other, and many of us made it. We lovingly remember the ones we lost, their stories and spirits live forever in us.
