I Love My Librarian Award Winners

Each year the SJSU iSchool’s Leadership and Management Program Advisory Committee sponsors a webcast that focuses on exemplary library leaders who have made a difference in the communities they serve. This year two librarians, Missy Creed and Jamar Raming, were invited to be the webcast speakers. They were two of the 10 recipients selected from more than 1,300 nominees of the prestigious I Love My Librarian Award. Missy Creed, Consumer Health Librarian, Ohio State University in Columbus provides health information and confidential reference services to members of her diverse community. As a solo librarian Missy’s efforts earned her Library for Health Information the ambassador library award in the National Network for Libraries of Medicine’s Partner Outreach Program. Jamar Rahming, Executive Director, Wilmington, DE Institute Free Library, discussed the many programs that he initiated to engage the community. Some of the programs include a speakers series of well-known authors and cultural icons, stocked bookshelves for children inside local barbershops, “Pitch or Ditch” competitions for minority-owned small businesses to pitch their ideas and compete for cash prizes, and a diaper bank and community closet on the library’s second floor.

These exciting programs were discussed in more detail in this engaging webcast.
