Published: May 2, 2017 by Anna Maloney
On April 20th, the MARA webcast series featured a presentation by Jesse Wilkins, Director of Research & Development for the International Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM). Wilkins discussed the Certified Information Professional (CIP) designation offered by AIIM, and covered topics included the audience for the certification, the examination development process, and the benefits of the CIP.
The CIP is ideal for records managers, information managers, knowledge managers, business analysts, archivists, and librarians. The examination, which can be taken at Kryterion testing centers across the country, covers six aspects of RIM:
- Creating and capturing information
- Organizing and categorizing information
- Governing information
- Automating information
- Managing the information lifecycle
- Implementing an information management solution
Other certifications the MARA program prepares students for include the Certified Records Manager examination offered by the Institute of Certified Records Managers, the Certified Archivist examination offered by the Academy of Certified Archivists, and the Information Governance Professional examination offered by ARMA International. The graphic below, developed by ARMA International, illustrates all of the certifications relevant to records and information management and information governance.
