The iSchool’s live virtual convocation ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 11 a.m. PDT via Blackboard Collaborate. Graduates, family members, and friends from around the world are invited to join the online celebration.

Graduates from the School of Information at San José State University will be honored on Saturday, May 16, 2015, during the school’s inaugural virtual convocation ceremony. The live event will feature several inspiring speeches in celebration of the graduates’ accomplishments.

Opening the ceremony will be Dr. Sandra Hirsh, director of the iSchool. Following her welcome speech, Dr. Alice Hines, dean of the College of Applied Sciences and Arts, will deliver her remarks. Keeping with tradition, the 2015 Ken Haycock Award winner, Darren Ilett, will address his peers. The final speech will be from the 2015 invited convocation speaker, Miguel Figueroa, who is the director of the American Library Association Center for the Future of Libraries. The iSchool’s student chapters have prepared a special video celebration that will conclude the 2015 virtual convocation ceremony.

The live ceremony will be held via Blackboard Collaborate Web Conferencing System and begin promptly at 11 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time. Attendees are encouraged to log in at least 15 minutes early.

For those who are unfamiliar with Blackboard Collaborate Web Conferencing System, the school has developed a Getting Started guide. The guide outlines preparation tasks, including how to set up audio equipment, install the Collaborate Launcher software, and join a test session.
