Student Research Journal Appoints New Editor-in-Chief
San José State University School of Information’s Student Research Journal announces a new editor-in-chief has been appointed for the 2018-2019 academic year. Megan Price, a graduate student in the Master of Library and Information Science degree program, is the journal’s eighth editor-in-chief.
Price is mid-program in her graduate studies and is focusing on special librarianship. She hopes to integrate her love of art, technology, and cultural exploration into a future, information-related career. In her spare moments, she loves walking around cities, visiting museums, generally being outdoors, and learning about people and places.
Uniquely student-governed, the SRJ is a double-blind peer reviewed journal which publishes exceptional graduate student scholarship in the fields of library and information science, archival studies, and records management.
SRJ’s 12 published issues since its inception in 2010 include authors from throughout North America, but its editorial team is home-grown at the SJSU School of Information. Editors at the SRJ have completed core courses in the Master of Library and Information Science or Master of Archives and Records Administration degree programs (including INFO 285 Research Methods), and bring an enthusiasm for research and scholarly communication to their work on the journal.
Editor alumni of the SRJ note their experiences taught them about collaboration and professionalism, and developed their critical reading and writing skills. Former editor Laurel Diskin shared:
“The SRJ is a fantastic experience! It will challenge you and help you grow as a critical reader. It will dramatically clarify and heighten your understanding of what constitutes good research and how it works in the larger arena of scholarly discourse. Working on the SRJ will also give you invaluable experience with the writing/editing process for scholarly publication.”
Students interested in the SRJ are encouraged to visit the SRJ online to learn more about the journal’s aims and scope, or contact the editor-in-chief at sjsu.ischool.srj@gmail.com.
