A dynamic interdisciplinary field, informatics emphasizes
analyzing and managing data while making that data secure and
actionable for users within the specific domains of health,
cybersecurity and privacy, and sports.
In honor of their significant contributions to the San José State
University School of Information, three faculty members recently
received notable promotions: Dr. Kristen Rebmann, Dr. Michelle
Chen, and Dr. Tonia San Nicolas-Rocca.

Bill Fisher will be inducted into the Special Libraries Association’s Hall
of Fame for his “service and contributions to the association.”
San José State University School of
Information’s Student Research Journal announces a new
editor-in-chief has been appointed for the 2019-2020 academic
year. Greta Snyder, a graduate student in the Master of Library
and Information Science degree program, is the journal’s ninth
editor-in-chief.

Luis
Herrera, city librarian emeritus at San Francisco Public
Library, has been a champion of public libraries throughout his
career of more than 40 years. His delivery of the convocation
speech at San José State University School of Information’s
virtual
graduation celebration is sure to be a highlight that
inspires students of the graduating class.
San José State University School of Information Director Sandra
Hirsh, a long-time member of the Association of Library and
Information Science Education, has been voted
president-elect of the organization.
For students who come from families where no precedent has been
set for higher education, the San José State University School of
Information’s newest student group supports them with their
graduate school and professional experiences.
