When to Apply for Financial Aid
iSchool applicants who would like to apply for financial aid should file their FAFSA (federal financial aid application) once they have submitted their application for admission to the SJSU iSchool. The Financial Aid Office will not make any financial awards or disbursements until an applicant has:
- Been admitted to the iSchool
- Enrolled for classes
The amount awarded depends on the number of units a student takes each semester. Students need to enroll in at least 4 units (200 level courses*) each semester in order to maintain eligibility for financial aid.
*SJSU 100 level World Languages classes (SPAN 132-10 or SPAN 132-11) are excluded from this rule as these classes apply toward the MLIS degree.
FAFSA Priority Filing Dates are available from the SJSU Financial Aid and Scholarship Office. Applications are processed in the order received and can take up to 14 weeks to be processed.
In order for financial aid to be available in your first semester, you must complete your financial aid application 3 to 4 months before the semester begins. Plan ahead to avoid classes being dropped for lack of payment.
If you are a Special Session student and have already applied for financial aid, you may contact Contact Jenisha McCoy in the SJSU Financial Aid Office at 408-924-6081. In your email, provide your full name and SJSU Student ID Number.
Important Note: Applicants, admitted students, and continuing students are responsible for checking their MySJSU accounts daily to review all areas of their accounts (Finances, Payment Due Dates, Holds, Messages,To-do list and Enrollment Dates), for status updates, communications and due dates from Financial Aid, the Bursar, Registrar, iSchool student services and instructors. A Student Center Overview is available. iSchool staff members are unable to advise you on your specific financial aid status or your application for financial aid.
